PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- Philadelphia city officials on Tuesday outlined plans for the 2026 Red, White & Blue To-Do, an all-day celebration marking the July 2 anniversary of the Second Continental Congress' vote to break from Great Britain.
Mayor Cherelle Parker joined members of the 250th committee to announce the vision for the third annual event, which commemorates the day the founding fathers approved independence - two days before the signing date traditionally associated with the holiday.
The city said the tribute will feature "pomp and parade," echoing the language John Adams used to describe how the nation should honor its founding. Plans include concerts, children's games, and extended visiting hours at museums and historic sites.
Officials also noted that neighborhood-level festivities will take place across Philadelphia to ensure that "every Philadelphian gets to take part."
The celebration is scheduled for July 2.
